Why packing matters as much as the unit price in Oman
For distributors working in Muscat, Sohar, Salalah or Duqm, the price on a quotation is only the starting point of the real cost. Packing decides how much labour goes into repacking, how much warehouse volume each container occupies, and whether goods can move from the container straight to a customer without being opened.
A tie that arrives in a tidy 100-piece bag with a clear label can be sold on with almost no handling. The same tie in a plain bulk carton may cost less to pack at the factory, but it needs counting, weighing and re-bagging before a small wholesaler or hardware shop will accept it. That labour is usually more expensive than the small saving on the packing line.
Oman is both a domestic market and a re-export hub, so a single importer often serves several customer types at once: electrical wholesalers, contractors, hardware retailers and industrial end users. Decide the packing format per customer type and per size, not once for the whole shipment.
Three packing formats and when each one is justified
Most orders are built from three formats: standard bags, bulk cartons and OEM packs. None of them is universally better; each fits a specific route to market and a specific buyer profile.
Standard bags in 100 pieces are the default for resale. They are easy to count, easy to price and simple to display. The trade-off is more handling per piece at the factory and a slightly higher packing cost per unit than loose cartons.
Bulk cartons suit masons, industrial maintenance teams and large contractors who consume ties by the thousand and do not care about retail presentation. They give the lowest packing cost per piece, but they are a poor fit for shops that sell in small quantities.
OEM packs put your own brand or your customer's brand on the shelf. They require artwork, a barcode decision and an agreed pack quantity, and they change both minimum order quantity and production time. Those details are always confirmed in the quotation and proforma invoice, never assumed.
- Choose bags when the end customer buys in small quantities or resells piece by piece
- Choose bulk cartons when the end user consumes large volumes and repacking is not required
- Choose OEM packs when brand visibility or retail listing requirements are part of the deal
- Combining two or three formats in one container is common and often the most practical option
Carton, weight and container data to confirm before you commit
Container planning is where packing mistakes become expensive. A carton that is two centimetres taller than expected can change how many units fit in a 20-foot container, and that changes freight cost per piece. Ask for the full packing table at quotation stage rather than after production.
Because tie sizes vary, standard packing is commonly 100 pieces per bag but the number of bags per carton differs from size to size. Carton quantity, carton weight and total pieces per carton are order-dependent and must be stated in the quotation or proforma invoice.
Treat any container loading figure as an estimate until the final carton dimensions are fixed. A small change in carton board thickness or bag fold can shift the loading quantity, so ask the supplier to reconfirm once packing is frozen.
- Pieces per bag and bags per carton
- Total pieces per carton
- Carton dimensions in centimetres, net weight and gross weight
- Carton board grade, printing and whether the carton is export-grade
- Number of cartons per pallet and pallet dimensions
- Indicative loading quantity for 20-foot and 40-foot containers
- Shipping marks, label position and label language
- Customs classification confirmed with your own broker
Heat, sunlight and storage conditions in Oman
Ambient temperatures in Oman and strong sunlight through warehouse roofs put stress on both the product and its packaging. Cartons stored on the top tier of a racking system can soften, and printed labels can fade if they are exposed for months before dispatch.
Black is the colour most often requested for outdoor use because it handles sun exposure better than light colours, but actual UV performance depends on the material grade and formulation. Whether PA6 or PA66 is the right choice for a specific application, and what temperature range applies, is confirmed in the quotation for that order.
Nylon absorbs moisture, so cartons should sit on pallets rather than directly on the floor, and storage areas should be ventilated. Very high stacking also crushes bags and makes counting inaccurate when the goods finally reach the customer.
- Keep cartons off the floor and away from direct sunlight
- Avoid storing near loading doors where dust and heat enter
- Rotate stock so older cartons leave first
- Check label legibility at dispatch, not only at production
OEM packing: what to prepare and what changes in the offer
OEM labels and packing are available for buyers who want their own brand, distributor code or retail language on the bag or carton. Because each project is different, minimum order quantity and production time depend on the model and the packaging requirement.
Prepare the artwork before you ask for pricing: pack quantity, label size, barcode number, wording in the required language, and whether you want a printed bag, a header card or a label applied to a plain bag. Sample approval usually comes before mass packing, so allow time for that step.
Packing is often quoted as a separate line rather than folded into the unit price. Ask for it to be shown clearly so you can compare offers on the same basis, and confirm the final specification in the proforma invoice.
- Artwork file and exact pack quantity
- Barcode type and number
- Language on the label, for example English or Arabic
- Whether the label goes on the bag, the carton or both
- Sample approval before mass production
- Confirmation of MOQ and lead time for the chosen packing
A practical enquiry checklist for Oman buyers
A clear enquiry shortens the quotation cycle and reduces the chance of a mismatch at production. Send the packing requirements together with the product requirements, not afterwards.
TOBEYHAO manufactures nylon cable ties in Hubei, China and supplies B2B buyers across the Middle East, including Oman. EXW and FOB terms may be offered depending on the quotation, and the final size, tensile value, temperature range, certification position, packing, weight and lead time are always confirmed in the formal quotation or proforma invoice.

Frequently asked questions
Is 100 pieces per bag always the standard packing?
It is the most common format for resale, but the final bag quantity can differ by size and by order. Confirm bag count, carton count and total pieces per carton in the quotation or proforma invoice before you plan container space.
Does a black colour guarantee UV resistance?
No. Colour choice is only one factor. UV performance depends on the material grade and formulation for that specific order, so ask for the applicable specification to be stated in the quotation rather than assumed from the colour.
Can I mix bulk cartons and OEM packs in one order?
In most cases yes, provided the minimum order quantity for each item and each packing type is met. Mixed packing usually affects production time, so it should be agreed at quotation stage.
Which Incoterms are available?
EXW and FOB may be offered depending on the quotation. The applicable term, port and document set are confirmed in the formal offer rather than stated in advance.
