Start with the mounting point, not the price
In harness and tube-routing projects across the Middle East, the first question a distributor receives is rarely about unit price. It is whether a specific clip will hold on the hole, edge or stud shown on the customer's drawing. A properly built automotive cable tie RFQ checklist therefore begins with the mounting interface and the bundle, and only then moves to commercial terms. It is cross-reference only and does not confirm fitment or authorization. Check the drawing and sample before approval.
Three families cover most enquiries. Push-mount fir tree clips locate in a round hole and suit blind assembly where no thread is present. Edge clips grip a panel flange and are common where a harness runs along a sheet-metal edge. Screw-mount ties fix on a threaded stud and allow a wider bundle to be routed away from the panel. Each family needs different data, so mixing them in one request without labels guarantees a round of clarification emails.
Heat and UV exposure also belong in the enquiry. A route close to the engine bay or under a windscreen in Gulf conditions is not the same purchasing decision as an interior trim route, even when the same part number appears on both drawings. Describe the route and the environment, not only the code.
The buyer checklist: inputs that make a quotation usable
A manufacturer can only quote what has been described. The list below is the minimum that lets a distributor compare offers on equal terms and repeat the same order months later without re-checking every detail.
Keep the same numbering when you send the request to several suppliers. Offers that arrive in different formats become easy to compare once every line has a number attached to it.
- Destination country and city, and whether the goods are for stock or for a named project
- Application: wiring harness, tube or single cable, plus the environment along the route
- Mounting type and dimensions: hole diameter, panel thickness, edge thickness or stud size
- Bundle diameter range to be held, in millimetres
- Approved Item No. or Part No. from the catalogue, plus any internal code your customer uses
- Quantity per size and per colour, packing preference, and whether OEM labels or printed bags are needed
- Sample requirement and the target timing for the first delivery
Specification fields that should be confirmed in writing
Material, flammability value and operating temperature cause more mismatches than any other three fields. The items in this programme are listed with PA66 as the material and 94V-2 as the flammability value; those values should be copied onto the purchase document rather than remembered from an earlier conversation.
For the edge clip ALSEC4-01 the stated operating temperature is -40 to 120 degrees C, and the same range is stated for the fir tree mount clip ALSFT5-01. The screw mount item ALS-LW012 carries a loop tensile strength of 24 kg in its approved data, while its operating temperature is not part of that data set and therefore has to be confirmed in the quotation or PI. Where a field is missing, do not fill the gap with an assumption.
Packing, carton data and import preparation
Packing drives warehouse effort and landed cost per piece. The edge clip ALSEC4-01 is listed at 500 pcs/bag with a unit weight of 1.07 g. Other items follow the common standard of 100 pieces per bag, and carton quantity varies by size, so carton dimensions and gross weight should be requested line by line instead of assumed from a previous shipment.
OEM labels and printed packing are available. Minimum order quantity and production time depend on the model and on the packaging requirement, so ask for both together with the offer rather than after the order is placed.
Import documentation, labelling rules and any conformity requirement are country-specific and change over time. Confirm the current requirements with a local broker or authority before shipping, and never accept a verbal assurance in place of a written document list.
Installation and specification decisions: panel, hole and bundle data
The fir tree mount clip ALSFT5-01 is specified at 4.5-5.5 mm, mounts by push fit into a round hole, accepts a bundle diameter of 2.5-34 mm and is intended for panel thickness of 1-3 mm. If the measured hole falls outside 4.5-5.5 mm, forcing the clip damages both the panel coating and the retention feature.
The edge clip ALSEC4-01 is specified at 1-3 mm and mounts on a panel edge of 1-3 mm. Its bundle diameter is not stated in the approved data, so that figure must be confirmed for the specific order. A clean flange matters as much as the dimension: weld spatter, sealant beads or a doubled panel change the grip far more than a tenth of a millimetre.
The screw mount tie ALS-LW012 measures 4.7 x 204 mm, mounts on a threaded stud, has a mounting hole of 6.5-7.2 mm, fits panel thickness of 1.3-7 mm and holds a bundle of 1.5-50 mm.
The decision rule is simple: measure the panel and the bundle first, then match the part. Choosing a familiar part number and adapting the harness to it is how rework starts.
Cross-references, samples and the final enquiry package
Item ALS-LW012 lists 126-03501 as a cross-reference. A cross-reference number is for catalogue comparison only; it does not confirm vehicle fitment, brand authorization or original-equipment status. Before a distributor releases the item to a customer, a drawing check and a physical sample check are required.
A sample run is also the cheapest way to test insertion effort, edge grip and tie closure against the real harness. Agree in advance who covers the courier cost and how many pieces the sample lot contains.

Frequently asked questions
Can a quotation be prepared from a part number alone?
Usually not. A part number identifies the family, but the offer still depends on the mounting dimensions, the bundle size, the quantity per colour and the packing requirement. Sending those four items together with the code removes most of the back-and-forth.
Does a listed cross-reference prove that the part fits a specific vehicle?
No. Cross-reference numbers are provided for catalogue comparison only. They do not confirm vehicle fitment, brand authorization or original-equipment status, so a drawing check and a sample check remain necessary before approval.
Which temperature range applies to these automotive items?
The fir tree mount clip ALSFT5-01 and the edge clip ALSEC4-01 are listed at -40 to 120 degrees C. The screw mount tie ALS-LW012 does not carry an approved operating temperature in its current data, so the applicable range has to be confirmed in the quotation or PI.
How many pieces are packed in one carton?
Carton quantity varies by size. Standard packing is commonly 100 pieces per bag, while the edge clip ALSEC4-01 is listed at 500 pcs/bag with a unit weight of 1.07 g. Ask for carton dimensions and gross weight per line in writing.
